Wayne County (Detroit) has one of the lowest marriage license fees among the large counties we track, and runs a dedicated One-Stop Shop Vital Statistics office for applications.
| License fee | $20 for Michigan residents; $30 for non-residents. |
|---|---|
| Waiting period | 3 days after application (Michigan statewide rule), waivable by the county clerk for good cause. |
| Documents / ID required | Valid government-issued photo ID for both applicants. |
| License validity | 33 days from the date of application, usable anywhere in Michigan (Michigan statewide rule). |
| Where & how to apply | You may start an application online, but must still visit the Wayne County Clerk’s One-Stop Shop Vital Statistics office (Suite 610, 400 Monroe St., Detroit) in person to receive the physical license, between 3 and 33 days before your wedding. |
| Office hours | Monday–Wednesday and Friday until 4:00 p.m.; Thursdays until 7:00 p.m.; closed for lunch 12:00–1:00 p.m. daily. |
Special notes
Because the license is only valid for 33 days, apply no earlier than a month before your ceremony date.
